Stamp Duty relief for First Time Buyers

19th April 2010

With effect from 25th March 2010 first time house buyers can take advantage government concessions on stamp duty.

The concessions mean that first time buyers will not pay any stamp duty where the property is sold for less than £250,000 and they intend to occupy the property as their only home.

Stamp duty normally starts at £125,000 at the rate of 1% (a potential saving of up to £2,500).  The relief is set to remain available until 25th March 2012.

If you require any advice on the buying a property or stamp duty please contact our Residential Conveyancing Team of Alun Jones in Welshpool  (01938 552545) or Sian Davies in Newtown (01686 625134).
